Your Brain’s Superpower: Taking Charge of Your Mental Health! 🧠

You know how you take care of your body? You eat healthy food, exercise, and get enough sleep. Well, your mental health is just as important! It’s all about how you feel, think, and act. Just like you can make your body stronger, you can also build a stronger, healthier mind.

What is an “Adversary”? 🤔

Have you ever heard the saying, “Excellence withers without an adversary”? This cool quote from a wise old philosopher named Seneca means that we get better and stronger by facing challenges. Think of a video game—the bosses and hard levels are the “adversaries” that help you level up your skills. In real life, things that are tough or stressful are your adversaries. They aren’t fun, but they can teach you a lot about yourself and make you mentally stronger.

Your Personal Mental Health Toolkit 🧰

Managing stress is a big part of taking care of your mental health. Luckily, there are tools you can learn to help you out! Dr. LuAnn Helms, a psychologist from Utah State University, has an awesome 6-part video series on “Stress Management and Wellness” that’s like a free workshop just for you.

In these videos, you’ll learn cool and useful things like:

  • Breathing exercises: Simple ways to calm your body down when you feel worried or stressed.
  • Progressive muscle relaxation: A way to relax your body by tensing and then releasing different muscles.
  • Cognitive behavioral tools: This is my favorite part! It’s about learning how your thoughts, feelings, and behavior are all connected. You can learn to change unhelpful thoughts and actions to feel better.

How to Be an Active Learner ✍️

To get the most out of these videos, don’t just watch them like a TV show. Pretend you’re really there! Grab a notebook and a pen. Answer the questions she asks and try out the activities. The more you participate, the more you’ll build your very own mental health toolkit that you can use anytime, anywhere.

Taking charge of your mental well-being is a superpower. The more you learn about your mind, the more you can handle the challenges life throws your way!
