Your Plan to Re-Excite Your Brain
You can take back control of your brain’s excitement and teach it to love real life again!
1. Be a Digital Detective
- Ask “Why?”: When an influencer promotes something, ask yourself: Are they posting this because they genuinely love it, or because they are getting paid? Look for keywords like #Ad, #Sponsored, or #PaidPartnership.
- Fact-Check the Filters: Remind yourself that the person you are looking at is not real. Search for “influencer fails” or “Photoshop in social media” to see the behind−the−scenes reality. The only perfect skin is digital skin.
2. Schedule Your Screen, Don’t Scroll on Command
- Set Time Limits: Use your phone’s built-in tools to limit how much time you spend on certain apps. Once the limit is hit, put the phone down!
- Create “Tech-Free Zones”: Your bedroom, the dinner table, and the hour before you go to sleep should be screen-free. Blue light and constant stimulation mess up your sleep and your ability to focus the next day.
- Put Your Phone Away: When you are hanging out with friends, put your phone in a bag or a different room. Give your real−life connections the attention they deserve.
3. Seek Real-Life Excitement with Great Hobbies
Your brain needs a break from the constant digital “sugar rush.” Re-introduce things that give you a slower, deeper sense of satisfaction:
| Hobby Category | Examples of Slow-Reward Activities | What it does for your brain |
| Physical/Movement | Running, hiking, team sports, climbing, dancing | Releases natural endorphins; improves focus and mood. |
| Creative/Focus | Drawing, painting, playing a musical instrument, knitting, coding | Builds sustained focus; rewards come from skill development. |
| Mind/Social | Reading a physical book, board games, journaling, volunteering, cooking/baking | Develops critical thinking and emotional connection; satisfaction from creating or giving. |
- Try a Low-Dopamine Activity: These are the activities that teach your brain that slow, focused attention can lead to a great, sustainable feeling.
- Talk Face-to-Face: Having a real, in−person conversation is the best way to develop genuine connection and emotional skills, which are far more valuable than any number of followers.
Remember: Your brain is amazing, and it is built to explore, create, and connect in the real world. Don’t let the fake perfection and constant demands of the screen make your real life feel dull. Log off, look up, and re−excite your brain!
