“When the pleasure is over, we’re left with nothing.” — Phil Stutz on the immediate rewards of bad habits 🍩📉 (via A Thousand Compromises)
Your Anger Is a Product. Are You Buying It? — and somebody is getting very, very rich selling it to you 💸 The question isn’t “are you being manipulated?” It’s “by how many people simultaneously?” 🤔 It turns out your outrage is a precision-engineered commodity, meticulously assembled by political strategists and algorithm engineers who profit off your cortisol spikes. Before your prefrontal cortex even has a chance to boot up and process information, the outrage machine has already bypassed your critical thinking. To survive this, we must build a rigorous cognitive toolkit: create intentional time and space for your brain to process what you consume, ground your perspective by reading long-form books across multiple disciplines, and stop listening to televised talking heads or social media influencers. Instead, seek out actual, deep-domain experts and engage in genuine conversations with real humans who disagree with you. The antidote isn’t cynicism; it’s becoming frustratingly difficult to manipulate by choosing slow, deliberate analysis over instant, emotionally engineered reactions. You are the most expensive problem the algorithm has ever faced—if you choose to give your brain the breathing room to actually think.
