Hey everyone! đź‘‹
Have you ever had something you used to love so much, but when you tried it again, it just wasn’t as great as you remembered? Maybe it was a video game that seemed super cool, or a TV show that isn’t as funny as you thought, or even a snack you used to beg your parents for!
A long time ago, I used to love funnel cake. It’s a special treat you can get at fairs, all covered in sugar. When I was a kid, it was the most delicious thing ever! It was better than any other snack I could think of.
So, the other day, I decided to get one. I was so excited to have that yummy treat again. But guess what? It was terrible! 🤢 It was way too sweet and just not good at all. I couldn’t believe it! The funnel cake hadn’t changed, but something else had.
How We Grow and Change
It wasn’t the funnel cake that was different. It was me!
When I was a kid, I didn’t have a lot of experience with different kinds of food. So, a funnel cake covered in sugar seemed like the best thing ever. My taste buds had only tried snacks like Oreos and Twinkies, so the funnel cake was like a super-snack!
But now that I’m older, I’ve tried so many different foods from all over the world. My taste buds have learned to appreciate all kinds of different flavors—sweet, salty, sour, and more. My idea of what “good” food is has changed because I’ve grown and experienced new things.
That’s Progress!
This is what we call progress. It means that what made us happy yesterday might not be enough for us today. And that’s a good thing! It shows that we are always learning, growing, and getting better.
As Stephen Messenger, a Continuous Learner, explains, “What satisfied us yesterday may not be enough today… and that’s progress.”
Think about it:
- Maybe you used to be happy with just a few LEGO bricks, and now you can build an amazing spaceship with hundreds of pieces!
- Maybe you used to love a simple drawing with just a crayon, and now you can draw something with so much detail and color.
- Maybe you used to be happy running a short distance, and now you can run even farther and faster.
It’s all a sign that you’re growing! The things you do, the books you read, the places you visit—they all help you learn and change. So, the next time something from your past doesn’t feel as amazing as you remember, just know that it’s because you have grown. You are becoming more amazing every single day! Keep learning and growing! 🚀
