Social Media Isn’t a Solution, It’s a Ping

You can’t get a resounding peal from a soft tap. That’s the lesson from a Zen master, and it’s a truth we’re all ignoring. We tap away on social media, treating every serious issue like a bell that will magically ring loud and clear with a gentle touch. It’s not happening.

The master told his student: “Think of me as a bell. Give me a soft tap, and you will get a tiny ping. Strike hard, and you’ll receive a loud, resounding peal.”

Social media is the soft tap. It gives you a ping—a fleeting sense of engagement, a few likes, a shared post. But a tiny ping doesn’t solve a crisis. A ping doesn’t fix policy. A ping doesn’t hold the powerful accountable.

STOP SCROLLING, START SOLVING. The real work happens offline. For serious issues, you don’t call out into the digital void. You contact professionals, experts, and elected officials. You strike hard, and you get a resounding peal. Anything less is just noise.
